Ofsted

Ofsted inspects every school approximately every four years. Our most recent inspection was in December 2022, and we were really pleased that the inspectors recognised that we continue to be a 'good' school.

Within the report, the inspectors highlighted that "Ashdon Primary School is a place with a distinct family feel. It is a warm and welcoming place for pupils to learn and make friends."

The inspectors went on to praise "a curriculum that is interesting, inspiring, broad and ambitious", and noted that "Leaders and teachers have high expectations of pupils' behaviour. As a result, pupils are eager to learn and the atmosphere around the school is pleasant and orderly."

As four years have now passed since our last visit, we are within the period during which Ofsted may inspect us again. Schools are given very little notice, so we will let families know as soon as we are told. We are well prepared, and there is nothing parents or pupils need to do differently.

The way Ofsted inspects and reports has changed significantly since our last visit. Single-word overall judgements have gone. Schools now receive a report card giving a separate grade for each of six areas: inclusion; curriculum and teaching; achievement; attendance and behaviour; personal development and well-being; and leadership and governance — plus early years, which applies to us as we have a Reception class. Safeguarding is reported separately as either 'met' or 'not met'.Each area is graded on a five-point scale: 'exceptional', 'strong standard', 'expected standard', 'needs attention' and 'urgent improvement'. 'Expected standard' means a school is doing what it should — a high and reassuring benchmark — and it is entirely normal for a school to sit at different points across different areas. Ofsted is clear that the new grades cannot be compared with the old ones. The Good Schools Guide

Our December 2022 judgement remains our published outcome until we are next inspected. Ofsted has produced its own short guide for parents and carers, including a video, which you can find at www.gov.uk/government/organisations/ofsted.

Your views matter

As part of the inspection process, Ofsted seeks the opinions of parents and carers about the education and support their child receives at school, and those views carry real weight. The Ofsted Parent View survey was revised alongside the new framework and now asks more directly about the things that matter most — whether your child is happy and safe here, whether they feel they belong and can thrive, and how well the school promotes positive behaviour and a culture in which every pupil can achieve.

Parents and carers can complete the survey at any point GOV.UKGOV.UK, which can be accessed by clicking on the Clipboard image. If we are notified of an inspection we will remind you, and we would encourage as many of you as possible to respond — inspectors see a far more representative picture when plenty of families take part. One thing to check before it goes live: whether your Clipboard image links to the current Parent View page, as the survey was rebuilt in November 2025 and older links on school sites sometimes point at the retired version.
